DESCRIPTION CULTIVATION Raspberries need fertile, well-drained but preferably moist soil in full sun or part shade. Tall canes may need support. They like to spread so root barrier is a good idea. Fully hardy. VARIETIES Autumn Bliss is a superb raspberry variety making delicious red fruit. They ripen from August until the first frosts if the plant is cut back in autumn or before spring. Then it makes fruit on current year’s wood. If the old canes are not cut they will set fruit on old canes early in the season – in June and July. You can also have fruit from June until October on well established, strong plants if you cut back half of the old canes leaving other half on. The plant will set fruit on both and new wood then. The fruit is medium-sized to large, sweet and aromatic, fully ripen it has burgundy red colour. Himbo Top is a popular variety which bears fruit all summer long until early autumn. The fruit is medium large, red, sweet and aromatic. It produces fruit on new canes so cut back all stems to the ground in November. Golden Everest is a variety with yellow fruit. It is large, aromatic and sweet. Fruit is made in one-year old wood and ripens from early August and continues until autumn. Last update 06-02-2010 |
